NOBUYOSHI ARAKI: MONSTROUS PARADISE

This photo is from Nobuyoshi Araki's 2015 "Monstrous Paradise" series. The title "Monstrous Paradise" and the images he arranged and created refer to how Araki sees and experiences life in Tokyo.

This work was published by the European Cultural Centre in 2018 in a PSAP Special Limited Edition Book No. 11 titled "Monstrous Paradise." The title was printed in Japanese on the cover. This image was exhibited at the Venice Biennale in 2019 by the European Cultural Centre.

For the "Monstrous Paradise" series, Araki took a total of 200 different photographs. 122 photos were published in his Special Edition book, but only 40 different photos from this series were printed in this format. This photo is number #053 in the "Monstrous Paradise" series. Although Araki's photographs are usually printed in open editions, only six were printed in this specific format, it comes with a certificate of authenticity.

This photo was printed on Hahnemühle Photo Rag Pearl 320 gsm paper, the finest paper possible for this type of photography. The paper measures 60x70 cm, and the image itself measures 50x62 cm.
