BEN VAUTIER
Ben Vautier (1935–2024)
He was a French artist of Swiss origin, known for his text-based works, performances, and as a founder of the Fluxus movement. Born in Naples, Italy, he moved to Nice, France, in 1949, where he opened a record shop that became a hub for the Ecole de Nice avant-garde artists. His art, characterized by provocations and ironic statements, explored philosophical questions about art and life, with a prominent example being his black-painted surfaces filled with calligraphic text. A passionate advocate for minority rights and regional languages, Vautier's legacy as an influential conceptual artist and provocateur continues after his death.
Rene Rietmeyer created with Ben the limited edition photographs from his Project "Introspection".
